My name is John, but I
guess you figured that much out since
you're at John's Place, right? If you want
to know a little about me just click
on the introduction link on the left
there and you'll go to an introduction page.
Even though I get to rambling on
sometimes when I type I tried to keep
the intro down to 10,000 words or less.
(Just kidding - it's a lot smaller
than that.)
This entire site is undergoing an update as of the first of November, 2005. According to FrontPage there are 907 pages and files, 427 pictures, 17483 links to areas on this site, and 2051 links to external pages. Those numbers will grow as the update progresses. So there is a good chance that somewhere a link may not work. I think I
have found most of the problems and fixed them, so most of
the internal links should be working now. I will keep checking as I add content. If you
find something that doesn't work please e-mail me. I haven't checked all the
external links yet, so some of those may be
outdated. I'll get to it as soon as I can.
Our Backyard Do you ever take the time to look around in your
yard and notice all the animals and plants that you share your life with? Do you ever wonder
what may be sharing your backyard with you? Well click on the picture or here and take a look at some
of the creatures that we share our yard with and some of the plants that they
depend on for food and shelter. Several years ago we received our certificate for our
backyard wildlife habitat, number 24492, from the National Wildlife Federation through
its Backyard Wildlife Habitat
Program. To check out some books that will help you attract wildlife
to your backyard go to our Backyard

mysterious little creatures and find out why
they may be a more important part of
your life than you ever imagined. Then
find out how you can help them to survive
in the modern world.
Do you like to watch birds? From
the serious birder to the casual watcher it
seems that nearly everyone does. It's
so easy to attract birds to your yard. All
you need are feeders, a simple birdbath or
water bowl, somewhere for them to nest and
raise their young, and some cover for
protection against predators. Probably the
one thing that did the most to attract birds
to our yard was the addition of water bowls.
There have been birds that came to our yard
for no other reasons than to get a drink or
to take a bath. The squirrels also use the
water bowls and make trips to get a drink
almost on a schedule. Check out a couple
pictures of my favorites and find out
how to attract birds to your backyard.
