The Changing of
the Seasons
|
 Hi
This is the grouping for Seasons on the web site. The different seasons will
have their own separate pages, and hopefully new pages will be added over the
years as new things happen and changes take place. Several of the pages are
incomplete at this time, but I am working on getting them finished and uploaded.
Take a look around, enjoy yourself, and let me know what you think.
I will try to remember to take pictures of the same places in the yard so
they will be a better comparison of how things change with the seasons. The one
on the left is from the spring of 2002, just after the fence was installed. You
can tell it's early spring because the trees are just starting to leaf out. I
think it was actually late March or very early April. It only takes about 2
weeks to go from the few green leaves here to everything being fully green. This
is my favorite season, when everything is coming back to life after the winter.

This
one is early summer, probably just a few weeks after the one above. The azaleas
down by the fence have already bloomed so it is probably late May or early June.
Everything still has that fresh look like it hasn't had to put up with the heat
of summer yet.

It's
easy to tell that this one is early fall from all the leaves on the yard. Well,
that's the price you pay for having all that shade during the summer. This was
the fall of 2002 and the leaves really colored up nice that year. In 2003 they
were mostly just brown, and they all fell at different times so there never was
a pretty yellow carpet on the yard. Well, there's always next year. Fall is my
second favorite season because of all the colors of the leaves, and the weather
has cooled off from summer. I think it was about November 12 before there was a
frost in our yard enough to kill the tender plants around back. The average date
of first frost here is October 15 so we had an extra long summer this year.

While this picture doesn't have the same view across the front yard as the
others on this page, it does show some of the tree damage at the far end of the
house. In the top two pictures you can just make out the Oak tree at the end of
the house. Well, these limbs came off of that tree and landed here after
bouncing off of the roof. Well, most of them bounced off. A couple stayed up on
top and had to be thrown off. We were lucky that there was no damage from all of
the limbs. They all must have landed flat on the roof, then bounced off. They
did jar everything in the house on the way down though, and at 3:00 in the
morning with the power off it was very unsettling.
