More Mantis

Spring 2000

Here are a few more pictures of the mantis couple that lives in our wildflowers

This is the brown eating his dinner. It doesn't show up very well in this picture and when I get the time I will try to capture a better picture from the video. The leaves are wet because I had just water the flowers and did it with a regular house instead of the soaker house. The drought here is in full force and the ground was dry as cement. Looked a lot like it too. It was soaking up the water so fast that I just used the regular hose to give the flowers a drink. I sprayed the plants down also and I think that brought the mantis out in the open.

This is another head shot of the green mantis. It kind of shows how well the mantis was hidden in among the leaves of the plant. Once you found her it was easy to see her, but unless you knew where she was it was very hard to see her.
This is a good full body picture of the green mantis.
